Gem Program
Basic to Intermediate (no prior knowledge required)
Introduction to the amazing world of gemmology and the beautiful gems. Learn the properties of natural and synthetic gems and key identifying features. Students will learn how to use standard gem instruments to identify gem varieties and recognize different qualities. Common gems, pearls, and jade are covered including additional testing required to identify treatments.
Students will receive:
- Printed Handouts
- Ten gemstones samples (natural, treated and synthetic). Enrol in the entire program (six sessions), and keep the gemstone samples!
Diamond Program
Basic to Intermediate (no prior knowledge required)
Introduction to the dazzling world of diamonds. Learn about diamonds and follow their evolution from rough stones to faceted gems. Students will learn the 4Cs of polished diamonds (Carat weight, Cut, Colour, Clarity) and the properties of natural diamonds and simulants (CZ and Moissanite) for fast separation with magnification.
Learn how to grade rough and polished diamonds using a loupe, microscope, master stones and measuring tools. The first step in valuing a diamond-proper identification, is highlighted in the program along with identifying quality.
Students will receive:
- Printed Handouts
- Five diamond samples (natural, synthetic and imitation). Enrol in the entire program (six sessions), and keep the gemstone samples!
