In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Harmony Jewellers transformed gratitude into action through an initiative that would unite a community and make a lasting impact. Following a challenging year marked by a series of robberies, the outpouring of support from the West Niagara community inspired owner Kevin Luttjehuizen to give back in a meaningful way.
That vision became Shine On, a unique fundraising initiative supporting West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation and McNally House Hospice. Instead of asking for direct monetary donations, the community was invited to contribute unused jewellery – pieces tucked away in drawers or no longer worn. Each item was restored, appraised, photographed, and auctioned, giving new life to cherished objects while supporting essential healthcare services.
What began as a single planned auction quickly grew into two large-scale auctions and a celebratory soirée, drawing widespread participation from individuals and businesses alike. The response was extraordinary, with hundreds of donated pieces and thousands of supporters contributing to the cause.
By the conclusion of Shine On, the initiative had raised more than $1 Million, supporting critical hospital equipment, patient care initiatives, and hospice expansion – demonstrating the powerful impact of creativity, generosity, and community spirit within the Canadian jewellery industry.
