SUMMARY
The Communications and PR Specialist plays a key role in the public image and information dissemination of a company. This role is involved in creating, managing, and executing PR campaigns and communicating with media, retail partners, and the public on behalf of the company to maintain positive public awareness of the company and our brands.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Develop and implement public relations strategies and campaigns.
• Write, edit and distribute press releases, speeches, newsletters, and other PR materials.
• Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to integrate PR campaigns with promotional and branding efforts while ensuring a consistent brand message.
• Monitor all forms of media, including print, digital, and social media, for relevant industry news and sentiment.
• Review, edit, and update promotional material and publications (brochures, videos, social media posts etc.).
• Support the execution of all PR initiatives including sponsorships, promotional events, and press releases/events.
• Organize and coordinate public relations events such as press events, media desk sides, exhibitions, tours and visits (and serve as the company’s spokesperson).
• Communicate directly with the press, media, and other stakeholders to maintain and enhance the image of the organization.
• Track and measure the impact of PR initiatives to adjust strategies as needed.
• Cultivate relationships and networks with journalists, influencers, and media stakeholders in the industry.
• Seek opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising.
• Main contact and responsible for all activity with PR agency.
• Review existing PR agency, source, and propose new agency annually.
• Track media coverage and follow industry trends.
• Prepare detailed media activity reports.
• Adhere to marketing budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources for maximum ROI with monthly presentation to management.
• Leverage business intelligence and data analytics in all aspects of the role.
• Propose how to handle crisis and emergency communications.
• Assist senior management in the development of communication strategies and preparation for public speaking engagements and interactions with the press.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or related field.
• 3+ years proven work experience as a Communications and PR Specialist or similar role
• Experience managing media relations.
• Background in researching, writing and editing publications.
• Proficient in MS Office and social media and digital platforms.
• Familiarity with project management software and video/photo editing is a plus.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, in English and French.
• Deep understanding of public relations and marketing strategies, with the ability to formulate and execute effective communication plans.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills for building and maintaining positive relationships with media, influencers, and other key stakeholders.
• Creativity and strategic thinking to design and implement innovative PR campaigns that capture attention and achieve desired results.
• Superior problem-solving abilities to handle potential PR crises swiftly and effectively, minimizing any negative impact on the company’s reputation.
• Remain current with the latest trends in media and communication technologies.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including sales, marketing, and product development.
• A polished professional appearance and attitude as this role interacts with vendors and retail partners.
• Occasionally, this role may involve standing for a couple of hours and lifting up to 30 lbs.
• Flexibility in terms of hours of work, recognizing that there will be a need for overtime.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, their own vehicle, and the willingness/ability to travel. Some travel may be required for events and meetings.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Probation Period: 3 months
Vacation: 2 weeks
Benefits: After passing probation, company paid except LTD
Pension: Mandatory to join after 1 year tenure, further discussion during interview process
Hours: 8:30am – 5:00pm
Location: Onsite at Markham office 5 days a week, no hybrid, no remote
