Quality Assurance Jeweller – Michael Hill
Are you looking to join a progressive and dynamic work environment? We have a rare and exciting opportunity here at Michael Hill for a Quality Assurance Jeweller to step into our workshop within the Quality Assurance Operations area.
Reporting to the Quality Assurance Operations Lead, the successful applicant will be responsible for performing repairs and modifications to finished jewellery pieces while ensuring all quality standards have been met. The individual must be able to work to deadlines whilst meeting individual KPI’s to
support the company’s retail and ecommerce customers. The role is multifaceted to assist in other areas of the quality department including inventory management and returns to vendors while maintaining strict inventory integrity both within the workshop and within the Quality Assurance Operations area.
More about the opportunity:
Resizing – use appropriate assembly and soldering techniques according to company standards
Efficiently manage work allocation to meet and exceed targets/KPI’s
Proactively notify Quality Assurance Operations Lead if workloads are expected to exceed workshop capacity and coordinate with external contractors to achieve throughput objectives
Uphold the integrity of the brand by finishing each piece to company standards using best practice techniques to minimize write-offs
Perform quality inspections on incoming vendor product and retail returns to identify vulnerabilities or product faults
Ensure proper materials and quantities of each are maintained in the workshop through providing usage reports and regular inventory counts
Liaise with Quality Assurance Operations Lead to order tools, consumables and materials as required to maintain productivity and meet agreed assigned KPI’s
Collect and secure all materials at end of shift with all counts validated by appointed QACA liaison
More about you:
2 years minimum experience as a Bench Jeweller or equivalent role
An interest and willingness to immerse yourself in the aforementioned quality, inventory and administrative elements of the role
Demonstrated ability to resize, repair and refurbish precious metal jewellery through all stages including polishing, plating and stone setting
An excellent problem solver
Excellent time management skills with a meticulous eye for detail
Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately with colleagues and stakeholders
Disciplined with self organization and work-station cleanliness

Position Summary:
The Quality Control Assistant helps the Quality Control Manager in ensuring that components as well as the finished assembled product adheres to the client’s requested parameters.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Check finished/assembled goods for problems, defects or poor workmanship
If a problem is found, inform production worker of specific workmanship issues that need to be fixed.
Help in cleaning/fixing certain defects or workmanship issues.
Check incoming components for defects
Help in ticketing or packaging product when necessary
Education and Experience:
No Specific education required but basic English spoken and written skills are a plus.
Basic gemology experience preferred but a specific title or certificate not required. Must understand gems and jewellery and know the basics of how to use grading tools such as microscopes or loupes.
On the job training will be provided.

Hours of work: up to 37.5 hrs/week on premises
Starting Salary Range: up to CAD 36,000 – 40,000 per year depending on knowledge/experience
